We did note some interesting looking abandoned farm houses and barns. There was no hostility on John's part whatsoever but some of the folks we ran into acted like they were not at all happy to see 'outsiders'. We ended up not taking him up on the camping fees because we got really spooked out by the houses and some of the folks living down there. He had a funky (funky-cool, not funky-smelly ) museum going down there, too. ![]() I haven't spoken to him in about six years but I will tell you from my experience, John's a really nice guy and eager to share information about the old town. ![]() ![]() My ex and I actually drove down to Valle Mines in 2001 to meet John Harrison and to check out the property. I had forgotten all about this until I started digging through some articles I'd kept on Missouri Camping.
